Thomaston

The Connecticut Community Foundation is very proud of our partnerships with the Thomaston community and our role in helping nonprofits and students flourish with a variety of grants and scholarships.

People

• George Seaborne, donor, fund founder and professional advisor has been instrumental in helping his clients establish funds to support the causes they care about, and has been involved in many volunteer efforts in the town of Thomaston over the years.
   
• Thomaston’s Dorothy Kindness established the Kristian F. Palmer Scholarship in memory of her son in 2011.
   
• Jannette Stevens, president of the Stevens Company, Inc. in Thomaston, has been involved with CCF as a donor and volunteer since 1993, serving as a former CCF trustee and treasurer.
  
  Jannette and her six children established the Stevens Family Fund in Memory of Ralph C. Stevens in 1993 to honor the memory of her husband who was an active environmentalist, music lover, and businessman. The fund has regularly supported the Thomaston Opera House Commission and the Thomaston Public Library among other local civic and cultural organizations.

Community Leadership

• As a part of the LitLinks early childhood education initiative, the Thomaston School Readiness Council of Thomaston Public Schools received a second-year grant of $8,286 in 2011. LitLinks aims to improve readiness of preschoolers' for kindergarten by better aligning preschool & kindergarten education through joint teacher training, seminars, parent outreach, & other efforts.

Sponsorships

• In 2011, the Thomaston Public Library received a sponsorship for a book discussion of classic literature, presented by Dr. Mark Schenker of Yale University.

Scholarships

• In 2011, CCF awarded Thomaston students $24,000 in scholarships including: Brian & Kristin Burr,Ronald Foshay, Erik Gundersen, Madeline P. Jacques, Kimberly Klauber, Elizabeth Mendola, Cassandra Rogers, Max D. Tanguay-Colucci and Patricia Vigeant. Awards come from a variety of scholarships available to many students in the 21 town area served by CCF.
   
• Dianne Couture received a CCF Community College Scholarship to continue her education and pursue her dreams of a medical career.
