Roxbury

The Connecticut Community Foundation is very proud of our partnerships with the Roxbury community and our role in helping nonprofits and students flourish with a variety of grants and scholarships.

People

• Attorney Mary Schinke of Roxbury has served as a member of CCF's Board of Trustees.
   
• Since 2007, Roxbury's Gary Steinman has served on our Scholarship Committee.
   

Community Leadership

• As part of our leadership efforts in early education, CCF brought together educators, parents, caregivers, and community leaders at a Community Conversation to explore how Regional School District 12 can help students better transition from preschool to kindergarten.

Grants

• The Northwest Conservation District for Energy Conservation, Efficiency, and Renewable Energy received a grant for a new, expanded program targeted to residents, town energy committees, and schools to increase clean, efficient and renewable energy. Roxbury was one of 13 towns receiving a combined total of $9,500 in grants through this program.
   
• The Town of Roxbury’s Council on Aging received a CCF grant for $47K over three years to implement programs and services at the then newly-opened Roxbury Community Senior Center. The grant included funding for part of the salary for the senior center coordinator and programs.
    
• CCF established the After School Arts Program (ASAP) and provided their initial funding of $90K.  Recently, CCF continued their support of ASAP by awarding them a grant of more than $6K to bring together students from Shepaug Valley High School and the Waterbury Arts Magnet School for music and dance programs.

Sponsorships

• CCF sponsored the Roxbury Congregational Church's involvement in the Simply Smiles program, allowing volunteers to travel to the Casa Hogar Orphanage in Mexico, where they spent time with the 80 children living there.  Additionally, volunteers travelled to the Oaxaca City Dump, where they helped build a home for a homeless family living in the landfill.

Scholarships

• Jordan Butler was the 2011 $4,000 recipient of the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department Memorial Scholarship Fund, an award available to a student residing in Roxbury, pursuing post-secondary education at a two or four year college or university, technical school, or institution offering post-graduate studies. Special consideration is given to current or former members or junior corps members of the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department.
