Prospect

The Connecticut Community Foundation is very proud of our partnerships with the Prospect community and our role in helping nonprofits and students flourish with a variety of grants and scholarships.

People

• Elner Morrell, formerly on the Scholarship Committee, began serving on the CCF Grants Committee in 2011.
   
• In 1994, Juanita Kent established the In Search of Excellence Fund with fellow educator, Lillian Brown.  The scholarship fund provides financial assistance to top African American students from Waterbury. 
   
• To honor his parents, Victor Visockcis Jr. relied on the knowledge and expertise of CCF to establish the Victor and Rosemary Visockis Education Fund.  The fund provides tutoring at the Algonquin Elementary School.
   
• Kyungsook Petrahai has contributed to the good work of CCF as a donor and volunteer. She established the Joseph A. & Kyungsook K. Petrahai Scholarship Fund in memory of her husband for students who attend a Connecticut public higher education institution.

Grants

• Region 16 schools received $10K in both 2010 and 2011 for P3 Litlinks Beacon Falls/Prospect Early Childhood Education Collaborative. LitLinks aims to improve preschoolers' readiness for kindergarten by better aligning preschool and kindergarten education through joint teacher training, seminars, parent outreach, and other efforts.
   
• Saint Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church received a $902 Basic Needs grant from CCF for the community-wide food pantry.
   
• In conjunction with CCF, the Connecticut Appleseed Center for Law and Justice provides free workshops about legal issues at the Prospect Senior Center including the legal aspects of long-term health care, prescription drug costs, wills, and estates.
   
• In 2009, CCF and Naugatuck Savings Bank presented $4,500 to the Prospect Fuel Fund and Food Bank. Funds will help the town meet increased requests by residents for assistance with food, fuel, housing, health care and transportation costs due to the economic crisis.

Scholarships

• In 2011, CCF awarded Prospect students $13,500 in scholarships including: Rachael Conti, Alexa Fermeglia, Timothy Korzinski, Kathryn A. Patrick,
  David Trapp & Shanna D. Wall. Awards come from a variety of scholarships available to many students in the 21 town area served by CCF.
