Beacon Falls

The Connecticut Community Foundation is very proud of our partnerships with the Beacon Falls community and our role in helping nonprofits and students flourish with a variety of grants and scholarships.

People

• The Smith family established the Brean T. Smith Fund in memory of Brean T. Smith, who died at the age of twenty-seven.  Brean's happiest years were spent among his friends at Holy Cross High School. To honor his most cherished years, the fund annually provides a scholarship to students planning to attend, or currently attending, Holy Cross. Preference is given to students who reside in Beacon Falls.
   

Funds

• Friends of the Beacon Falls Library established an agency advised fund in 2011 to support projects at the library, with Isabelle Culotta serving as treasurer and Wanda Mulinski serving as president.
   

Grants 

• As a part of the LitLinks Early Education Initiative, Regional School District 16 received a second-year $10,000 grant in 2011. LitLinks aims to improve preschoolers' readiness for kindergarten by better aligning preschool and kindergarten education through joint teacher training, seminars, parent outreach, and other efforts.
   
• In 2010, the Beacon Falls Parks and Recreation Commission received a $4,000 grant for their Afterschool Programs with the Eli Whitney Museum & Workshop.

Sponsorships

• CCF sponsored the Ambassador Wolves Program at the Beacon Falls Public Library and also the Community Forum “Discovery Day” presented by the Town of Beacon Falls’ Conservation Commission.

Scholarships

• CCF awarded scholarships to Nicholas Altieri and Amanda Gomez from the Brean T. Smith Scholarship Fund and the John L. and Jeanne C. Hughes Scholarship Fund, for students residing in Beacon Falls and students majoring in Liberal Arts.
