Escape from Bosnia Leads New Milford Student to UMass Amherst
When Nirma Rizvic escaped from Bosnia with her mother in 1992 at the age of one, or even 8 years later when she moved to America and quickly excelled in school, she could not yet have realized how closely tied to her past her future academic and career goals would be.
With current aspirations to become an attorney and work as a part of the United Nations, it is safe to say her pursuits hold a personal connection. She hopes to one day, “help Bosnians and all people without a home.”
Now ready to begin her sophomore year at UMass Amherst in the fall of 2011 as a Social Thought/Political Economy/Law major, she plans to work towards an International Affairs certificate offered at her school. Upon finishing college, she ultimately wants to obtain her law degree in either the U.S. or Europe.
Nirma, who is a resident of New Milford, received a $3K scholarship from the Elizabeth H. Andersen and Nina E. Andersen Scholarship Fund at CCF in 2010 and 2011.
