P3 Grants to Build Community Partnerships of Preschools and Public Schools
Connecticut Community Foundation’s LitLinks program awards P3 grants to give preschools, public schools, parents and others the opportunity to develop joint solutions to better prepare children for kindergarten.
Ten communities in our service area including Beacon Falls, Cheshire, Bridgewater, Roxbury, Washington, Naugatuck, New Milford, Prospect, Thomaston, and Watertown, are building teams of preschool and elementary school teachers as well as parents to strengthen children’s skills in reading and language based on the state’s Kindergarten Inventory or other standardized assessment tools.
We expect these efforts to:
- increase the number of children judged as proficient on the literacy component of the state Kindergarten Inventory and/or other formal assessment
- increase the number of preschools using a formal curriculum aligned with CT Framework, local standards and state grade level expectations
- support a smooth kindergarten transition process for students due to aligned instruction and expectations
- support parent understanding of literacy and pre-reading skills necessary for successful transition to kindergarten
