What a Difference a Building Makes
Connecticut Community Foundation grant: $50,000
The Leever Foundation grant: $25,000
Naugatuck Savings Bank Foundation grant: $25,000
A $50,000 grant from the Connecticut Community Foundation combined with $25,000 from our private foundation partners kick-started StayWell Health Center’s first major fundraising campaign in 2007.
The Connecticut Community Foundation helped StayWell identify additional funders to help buy its building.
“What a difference”
That’s what patients said when they first walked into StayWell Health Center’s new building.
No more circling the block looking for a parking spot, arriving at your appointment late and flustered. No more trudging uphill from the nearest bus stop. No more cramped waiting room, having to lean over another patient to talk to the receptionist.
Instead, patients can now drive into an ample parking lot or walk from the bus stop at the corner.
Once inside the professional office building, patients are greeted by a newly-painted lobby and signs directing them to roomy suites for pediatrics, dentistry, women’s health, chronic disease care and more.
“I love it here,” said Andrea Owens about her daughter’s first doctor’s visit at the new building. “There’s more room and it’s not crowded like it used to be.”
And the quality of care?
“That’s why I’m here,” she said.

Dr. Marcia Tejeda, a former CCF trustee, sees bringing together agencies for collaboration as just as significant as providing funding.
