Accountability

Accountability to our community, our donors and our grantees is a guiding principle of the Connecticut Community Foundation.

Our Board of Trustees reviews the results of our grants and services annually and makes modifications as needed.

The input of nonprofits, students, committee members and residents drives improvements in our grantmaking.

Community
The Connecticut Community Foundation has adopted a comprehensive tracking system to assess the impact of our competitive grants.  Specific benchmarks include dollars leveraged, number of residents benefiting, and program success rate among others. Current results will be shared early in 2010.

Our annual report is published and distributed widely including summaries through regional media.

Our grant review and decision process also reflects our special role as your community foundation with committees comprised of residents possessing a wide range of knowledge and residing in towns throughout our region.

Donors
A thorough due diligence process has been adopted for all grantmaking and gift acceptance to insure that all are in accordance with both IRS regulations and the donor’s wishes.

Donors are provided annual or quarterly statements on their funds including investment performance, grants distributed, and gifts received.

Nonprofits
The Connecticut Community Foundation actively seeks the input of nonprofits regarding community needs, grant and reporting processes.

In 2008, we conducted a survey of our grantees and modified our eligibility and reporting criteria to better meet the needs of our nonprofit organizations.
